Phoenix area activities for SeniorsThere’s no shortage of fun and exciting activities in the Phoenix area — especially for older adults. Best of all? Many local attractions are either free to the public or offer discounted rates for seniors.

If you’re ready to get out and explore, we’ve compiled a list of seven Phoenix area activities for seniors we recommend you check out this season.

1. Visit the Desert Botanical Garden

Easily one of the most popular and well-known destinations in Phoenix, the Desert Botanical Garden offers much more than just beautiful scenery. From events like “Music in the Garden” concerts to classes and workshops, there’s something for everyone. Though you can purchase an annual membership, seniors also receive a discount on general-admission tickets.

2. Check Out Civic Space Park

Though it may not be what you typically expect from a park, Civic Space Park is uniquely designed with sustainable construction elements, like solar panels and rainwater collection. Plus, you know you’ll be able to find reprieve from the sun when you visit this park — 70 percent of the park surface area is shaded.

3. Spend Time in the Art Museums

There’s nothing quite like a relaxing and educational day at the museum, and seniors receive significant discounts on admission at both the Phoenix Art Museum and the Heard Museum. You can see pieces by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera up close at the Phoenix Art Museum, and take in the extensive collection of Native American art at the Heard Museum.

4. Go to the Ballet

Most shows at Ballet Arizona offer discounts to seniors, so be sure to check out the calendar of upcoming performances — many of which are accompanied by the Phoenix Symphony.

5. Attend the Opera

The Arizona Opera also offers discounts to seniors on most performances and often performs classic favorites like “Madame Butterfly” and fan favorites like “Cinderella.”

6. Take it to the Lanes

Bowling is a great way to get in some light exercise (and stress relief) while also enjoying time with friends — especially when outdoor temperatures become unbearable. Check out Let It Roll Bowl or the Phoenix Lucky Strike, then gather your team together for a game or form your own league.

7. Play Bingo

Whether you’re trying it for the first time, or you’re an experienced pro, bingo can be a blast. And, like bowling, it’s a great way to enjoy the company of friends and beat the heat. There are plenty of excellent bingo halls around, such as Reflections Bingo. Often, you can receive a reduced rate through deals on Groupon.

One thing’s for sure: Phoenix-area seniors definitely don’t have to worry about being bored. With so many things to see and do, there’s always an opportunity to get out and about. Check out these seven activities and get to know all the great places around Phoenix.
