SURPRISE, ARIZ., Jan. 21, 2016 – The Colonnade, a Sun Health Senior Living Life Care Community, brought home silver from the 2016 National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) “The Best of 55+ Housing Awards.”
Sharon Grambow, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Sun Health Senior Living, traveled to the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, Jan. 20, to accept the prize, awarded in the “continuing care retirement community” category.
“Receiving an award from NAHB is a great boost for Sun Health Senior Living’s national standing,” Grambow said. “We were in impressive company with the other nominees and award winners who included names like Verrado and Del Webb. I am extremely proud of this recognition.”
Sun Health, nonprofit parent of Sun Health Senior Living, has invested approximately $50 million over the past five years to expand housing and add amenities at The Colonnade, a 40-acre independent-living community in Sun City Grand/Surprise made up of more than 240 residences, including casitas, townhomes and villas.
The latest phase of construction has focused on two 36-unit villas, which are nearing completion with early March targeted for residents to begin moving in. Construction crews also recently broke ground on Club Solé, a 12,000 sq. ft. recreation and dining-center clubhouse, exclusively for residents and their guests. Longer-range plans include building assisted living and memory support housing on the campus.
Area seniors appear to like the changes. Existing independent housing is 95 percent occupied and future residents have put down deposits on more than 80 percent of the soon-to-open villas. Moreover, resident satisfaction has risen from 85 percent “highly satisfied” in 2013 to over 94 percent in 2015 as measured by annual resident surveys. Increased satisfaction also appears to be linked to an increase in resident referrals to The Colonnade.
Contributing to the project and named in the nomination for the NAHB award are The Weitz Company (general contractor); Orcutt-Winslow Partnership (architect); Thoma-Holec Design (interior design) and Creating Results (marketing). “These companies all have been huge contributors to The Colonnade’s success and deserve a big share in this award,” Grambow said.
