SURPRISE, ARIZ., March 16, 2016 – Sun Health Senior Living (SHSL) recently formed a partnership with Morrison Community Living – a company with a 95-year history in the hospitality business – to take dining experiences for its residents to a new level of excellence.
“Based on resident survey results, the overall dining experience was already a strength for Sun Health,” says Philippe Michelin, regional director of operations for Morrison. “This partnership makes it even stronger.”
Tom Smith IV agrees. He was impressed enough that he switched his role as director of dining services and executive chef at La Loma Village, one of SHSL’s three communities, to become a system executive chef for Morrison. He oversees the culinary teams at each community, making sure they have needed resources and that they follow Morrison standards.
“Sun Health is growing and we need better systems to control food quality and costs, and to standardize practices so that quality and efficiency are consistently high across the board,” Smith said.
Morrison brings world-tested systems that streamline purchasing, ordering, inventory management, sanitary practices and other operations. They bring 15,000 recipes that include nutritional information and calorie counts, and they also bring extensive training and professional growth opportunities for staff.
Across the senior living landscape, residents increasingly expect a lot from dining programs, including more exciting and varied menus and a social component to meals.
“This partnership is helping us meet customer expectations by creating ‘wow’ experiences that go beyond the food on the plate,” said Sharon Grambow, SHSL executive vice president and chief operating officer.
