The Colonnade
Last September Sun Health Senior Living Arizona retirement communities broke ground on The Villas, a 36-unit condo-style apartment complex, at The Colonnade in Surprise.
Just 11 months later, the building will open at the beginning of August, and we will welcome the new residents to the community. In addition to the four-story building, major improvements were completed on parking and roads on the 40-acre Sun City Grand community. A new entrance from Colonnade Way opens this month.
Additionally, The Promenade, a lushly landscaped walkway from the Clock Tower to the front entry of “Villa 1,” will open shortly.
“When Sun Health assumed full ownership at The Colonnade, we made a promise to existing residents to commence construction and complete the development of the community,” said Sun Health Executive Vice President Joe La Rue. “Finishing the first villa is a major step in that process, with a lot more construction planned over the next three years.”
The Sun Health board of directors approved the design of the second villa and of the west clubhouse. The new west clubhouse will feature many amenities that may include dining options, fitness, resident gathering space and an outdoor walking pool. Several resident deposits for Villa 2 are already in place. The construction timetable for these projects will be announced soon.
La Loma Care Center improvements on track
In February, La Loma Care Center launched a series of campus improvements consisting of a new rehabilitation center, 27 new skilled nursing beds and 10 new assisted living apartments.
- The new 6,400 sq. ft . Rehabilitation Center, scheduled to open this month, will feature a new rehabilitation gymnasium offering physical, occupational and speech therapies. Outpatient therapy services also will be offered.
- Other improvements include an “Idea House,” where patients can regain or increase their functioning in a home-like setting, a holistic healing therapy garden, a Wi-Fi Community Café and a Community Education center.
- Construction crews are transforming the second floor shelled-in space into a short-stay skilled nursing unit with 27 private rooms with private bathrooms. Scheduled to open in August, the unit will feature innovations such as electronic health records, automated vital sign machines and hand-held documentation devices.
- In late July, construction will begin on 10 new assisted living apartments with room to house up to 15 residents. The focus will be on helping residents maintain mobility and improve their health through nutrition, education and social enrichment programs.
The entire project is expected to finish in December. Paul Vanderveen is the project manager, Orcutt-Winslow Partnership is the architect and The Weitz Company, LLC is the general contractor.
Grandview campus improvements coming soon
Grandview Terrace (GVT) and Grandview Care Center (GVCC) in Sun City West celebrated the campus’s 16th anniversary in June. Sun Health Senior Living will soon begin a significant campus enhancement effort. Plans call for refurbishing each floor of GVCC. Phase one includes remodeling the Long Term Care Floor (3rd) of Building B, closest to Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center. Phase one also involves converting the second floor of Building B into a Sub-Acute unit for short-stay care.
