It’s finally summertime. And while the three Sun Health Arizona senior living communities – Grandview Terrace, The Colonnade, and the lovely La Loma Village – are certainly a type of resort-style living all their own, with summer comes weekend trips, vacations, and travel destinations you won’t soon forget.
But from rental cars to missing luggage, getting there isn’t always easy. That’s why, here at Sun Health Senior Living, we’ve come up with a list of five easy-to-follow senior summer travel tips to help you get the most of your summer vacation:
1. Consider going with a group: If you’re planning on going to a destination you’ve never been before, think about going with a group. Travel groups geared toward seniors offer a wide variety of exciting daily activities, the opportunity to make new friends, and perhaps most importantly, an element of organization that will help you take care of all the necessary travel details.
2. Organize your documents: Before traveling, make sure you have every document you’ll need. Your I.D., your passport, your tickets – be sure everything is up to date, and place your documents in a small, easy to access bag.
3. Exercise while traveling: Whether you’re traveling by train, plane, or car, remaining stationary for hours at a time can not only be uncomfortable, it can be painful. If you’re traveling by car, pull over every once and a while and stretch your legs. If you’re flying, wait until the seatbelt sign is off and walk the aisle to get your blood flowing.
4. Pay attention to time zones: Because traveling often means crossing over time zones, it can be difficult to remember to make the necessary adjustments to your usual medication regimen. However, because it’s important to keep up with your medication schedule, be sure to find out what the time difference is before you travel.
5. Bring a list of numbers: Whether you’re traveling out of the country or just out of the state, prepare a list of important phone numbers to keep with you at all times in case of an emergency. Your son’s number, your daughter’s number, your travel agent’s, your doctor’s – it’s always best to be prepared.
Whether you’re traveling internationally, taking a trip to the beach, or visiting grandkids across the country, with our five, easy-to-follow travel tips, you’ll be able to spend less feeling stressed and more time enjoying!
