La Loma Village residents were treated to quite the Valentine Day and Mardi Gras celebrations this past month.
On Valentine’s Day residents were treated to quite the show as The Singing Cowboy, Gary Sprague and his trusty sidekick, his horse Dusty, serenaded the crowd.
And then it was on to Mardi Gras, which is French for “Fat Tuesday.” Every year, the people of New Orleans celebrate Mardi Gras. This holiday is the day before Ash Wednesday, which for many starts the season of Lent, leading up to Easter Sunday.
La Loma’s Mardi Gras celebration could surely compete with any held around the country as it was a bevy of entertainment including Darcy Andelin and fortune-telling dog, Miss Cleo, dance instruction by Katherine McDonnell, live juggling and unicycle demonstrations, balloon making as well as a 5-piece New Orleans’s band, plus food and beverages from Sunny’s food truck (the Sun Health food truck).
And no Mardi Gras celebration would be complete without the crowning of the Mardi Gras King and Queen, Joe Rooney and Marilyn Pyle.
The La Loma Village Life Enrichment team is amazing – and as resident Shel Taylor said, “You all do so much for us. We are so grateful to live here.”
