  3. Three Sun Health Community Locations: Different, Yet So Much Alike

Post date:

Part of the secret to being satisfied in a retirement community is finding one what syncs with your style. Just like people, communities have a personality of their own — including the three Sun Health Community locations. Even though they may offer similar amenities, services and residential agreement options, they’re each distinct in their own ways.

Here’s a helpful chart for comparing the Sun Health Community locations at a glance. While you’re here, though, read on to get a deeper sense of what each community is like.

Grandview Terrace

Situated in Sun City West, Grandview Terrace touts the convenience and luxury of high-rise living. Residents of the community have everything it takes to make the most of every day, all under one roof, including:

  • Casual and formal dining options (including casual café-style eateries and formal dining rooms complete with a grand fireplace) with patio dining (weather permitting) and gorgeous views of the golf course, as well as room service
  • A multitude of recreational opportunities, including a piano bar in the lobby, an inviting dance floor for fox-trotting and two-stepping, a game and billiards room, a private theater, an art studio, a woodworking shop and plenty of fun-filled social gatherings, such as wine and paint events, casino nights and murder mystery dinners
  • Ample amenities for the practical side of life, including a full-service bank, a salon and spa, a library, a gift shop and an on-site health clinic
  • An indoor walking track, exercise rooms and fitness coordinators to help with health and wellness goals

Grandview Terrace’s six floors hold one- and two-bedroom condominiums with private entrances and a prime selection of floor plans. Valet parking is available to simplify those trips to and from the many exceptional entertainment, shopping and eating venues in the surrounding metro area.

As if all that weren’t enough, residents of Grandview Terrace also receive a Sun City West recreation membership, giving them access to the city’s golf courses, recreation and fitness centers, swimming pools, tennis/pickleball courts and more.

La Loma Village

This expansive community, with its roots deeply intertwined in an area rich with history, is located in the heart of Litchfield Park. Residents of La Loma Village are drawn to the community’s relaxed lifestyle and tight-knit nature. La loma means “the hill,” and as the name implies, La Loma Village is set against a backdrop of desert mountains, offering extraordinary views to those who venture along the community’s beautifully landscaped walking paths.

Within La Loma Village, residents can partake of all sorts of amusements and activities, such as:

  • A social lobby with a cocktail lounge and adjoining piano bar
  • Options for keeping both mind and body active and engaged — including a fitness center and motion studio with an indoor heated pool and a certified fitness and lifestyle coordinator, a bocce court and putting green, an art studio, a movie theater, a billiards and game room, a library, a computer room and a dog park, along with a schedule of talks and seminars held as part of La Loma University
  • A flexible dining program featuring freshly prepared resort-quality food in the Sonoran Dining Room or quick snacks and a full menu of specialties at the Atrium Café, with the option of patio dining

Within a short distance of La Loma Village are the eclectic shops, golf courses and gourmet restaurants at the Wigwam Resort, as well as seasonal festivals and outdoor shows in Litchfield Park. Just a few miles north are the neighboring ballparks, entertainment districts and shopping and eating destinations in Surprise, Glendale, Peoria and the Sun Cities.

Living areas in La Loma Village — apartment homes with one, two or three bedrooms and single-family casitas with two-car garages — are spacious, with open floor plans, private entrances and private balconies or patios.

The Colonnade

Favored by many for its Mediterranean-style architecture and lush landscaping, The Colonnade rests upon 40-plus acres in the heart of the esteemed Sun City Grand and Surprise area. The gated community offers a profusion of amenities and activities, both indoors and out, including:

  • A network of walking paths among vibrant gardens that complement the desert’s natural beauty
  • The 17,000-square-foot Club Solé, a clubhouse and recreation center that serves as the community’s thriving social scene. It boasts a full-service restaurant with a brick pizza oven, an indoor and outdoor pool and spa, a fitness center with a yoga studio and massage therapist, bocce and miniature golf, a game room with billiards and table tennis, a private theater, an arts and music studio, a library, a computer center, a beauty salon and a regular schedule of classes and activities.
  • A flexible dining program with fine, casual and courtyard dining at the Milano and Bistro restaurants, as well as dining at Club Solé

Residents of The Colonnade have the pleasure of enjoying “double” recreation benefits, since they receive a recreation membership that gives them access to Sun City Grand’s golf courses, fitness centers, events, classes and more.

The Colonnade’s well-appointed living spaces include one-story, single-family, two-bedroom casitas, one- and two-bedroom villa apartments and two-story townhomes with up to three bedrooms, with private balconies or patios, and two-car garages or underground parking.

Different in the details, but alike in lifestyle

The best way to see which Sun Health Community location would be your best match is to visit each one and spend some time there. While your day-to-day experience would be different in each community, there really isn’t much difference among them when it comes to planning for your future and protecting your assets.

Masterpiece Living®

All three Sun Health Community locations follow the principles of Masterpiece Living®. That means they provide an environment in which healthy aging and wellness thrive at all levels. The lifestyle focuses on factors that influence your quality of life, such as physical health, social wellbeing and intellectual and spiritual fulfillment.

Life Plan Communities with Life Care

As Life Plan Communities, all Sun Health Community locations encourage residents to embrace retirement as an active lifestyle that’s grounded in wellness and fulfillment. If the time should come when your needs change and you require health services, as a resident of any Sun Health Community location (or a member of Sun Health At Home) you would have access to assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing and rehabilitation services. And, with a Life Care agreement, you could rest assured knowing that you would have access to the full suite of health services even if your financial situation changed or you outlived your assets. Three different types of Life Care agreements are available, making it possible to select one that’s appropriate for your specific circumstances.

More of the same

No matter which Sun Health Community location you might choose to call home, you can enjoy maintenance-free living and dining options that accommodate a wide range of dietary preferences.

Other amenities and services you’ll find at all three locations:

  • Housekeeping plans
  • Routine maintenance
  • Linen service
  • Scheduled shopping trips
  • Chauffeured transportation for medical, legal or professional appointments
  • 24-hour concierge or customer service
  • Private rooms available for special occasions
  • Security
  • Emergency medical response personnel available 24/7
  • Personal response pendants

Plus, since all Sun Health Community locations are convenient to Loop 101, they’re just minutes away from the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale, where you can enjoy Arizona Coyotes hockey matches, Arizona Cardinals football games, blockbuster concerts and some of the best shopping and dining in the Northwest Valley. Peoria’s P83 Entertainment District is also quite close by, where you can catch a Cactus League spring training game and indulge in even more great restaurants and shopping. Spring training games are also held at the stadiums in Surprise and Goodyear, both within easy distance of any Sun Health Community location.

Making the right choice

If the idea of living in a Life Plan Community appeals to you, choosing one of the Sun Health Community locations should be relatively simple. Take a tour of each one, talk with the residency counselors and picture yourself living there. Bring a friend or family member with you and, if possible, interact with some of the residents. You’ll most likely get a sense of where you’d feel most at home. And remember, help is available through every step of the process — before, during and after you make your decision.
